Our School Holds the 2025 Choral Competition and May Fourth Commendation Ceremony under the Theme “Passing Down the May Fourth Spirit, Advancing with Youthful Responsibility at SJZU”

On the afternoon of April 24, the 2025 Choral Competition and May Fourth Commendation Ceremony, themed “Passing Down the May Fourth Spirit, Advancing with Youthful Responsibility at SJZU," was held at Shangwen Auditorium. Party Secretary Chen Liang, Deputy Party Secretary Ji Lihuai, Vice Presidents Yao Zhenjun, Feng Baoqiang, and Li Juan, as well as Discipline Inspection Secretary Li Huilin, attended the event and presented awards to the winning units and the commended collectives and individuals. The event was also attended by a delegation led by Vice President Fu Hongbing of Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology, along with all mid-level administrators, Youth League branch secretaries, counselors, faculty representatives, student representatives, and participating teachers and students from various schools—totaling over 3,200 participants.
The competition invited five renowned domestic experts as judges: Wang Weihua, Deputy Director of the Music Professional Committee of the China Mass Literature Society, Standing Council Member of the China Choral Association, and President of the Choral Art Committee of the Hebei Musicians Association; Wu Hui’an, Vice Chairman of the Hebei Musicians Association, Chairman of the Shijiazhuang Musicians Association, and National first-class composer; Ma Guang, Member of the China Musicians Association, Vice Chairman of the Hebei Musicians Association, Professor and Master’s Supervisor at Hebei University of Science and Technology; Liu Jianping, Member of the China Musicians Association, Standing Council Member of the Hebei Musicians Association Choral Art Committee, and First-class director at Hebei Television Station; and Xu Hui, Associate Professor and master’s advisor at the School of Music of Hebei Normal University, and visiting scholar at the Bruson Opera Institute in Italy.
The competition commenced with the solemn national anthem. Teams from 15 departments took the stage in splendid attire, with passionate singing and boundless enthusiasm, performing patriotic songs such as The Power of Revival, Leading the Way, May China Prosper Forever, When That Day Comes, A Century of Vigil, Nation, Everlasting Love, Aspiration, Marching Toward Revival, March of the New Era, China in the Lights, Defending the Yellow River, Staying True to the Mission, The Motherland Will Never Forget and On the Taihang Mountains. As professional performing units, the School of Music and the Yueda International Institute of Arts performed The Very Day and The Miraculous Crossing of the Chishui River Four Times, SJZU students expressed their heartfelt love and blessings for the motherland through their singing, resonating deeply with the audience. After fierce competition, the School of Literature and History won first prize, the School of Foreign Languages and the School of Journalism and Communication took second prize, the School of Law and Society, School of Science, and School of Economics and Management secured third prize. Additionally, the School of Music and Yueda International Institute of Arts were honored with the Special Contribution Award.
The conference honored outstanding collectives and individuals in the Communist Youth League work during the 2024-2025 academic year. A total of 82 grassroots Youth League organizations received honors such as “May Fourth Red Flag Youth League General Branch,” “May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Branch,” and “Advanced Youth League Branch.” Additionally, 1,084 League members were awarded titles including “Student Youth May Fourth Medal,” “Top Ten Youth League Branch Secretary,” “Upward and Virtuous Youth,” “Outstanding Youth League Cadre,” and “Outstanding Youth League Member.”
The successful hosting of this event not only represents the effective implementation of our university’s “1396” development strategy and the vigorous advancement of the “Student Comprehensive Competency Enhancement Initiative,” but also powerfully demonstrates the patriotic spirit of our student body. It has effectively channeled their patriotic fervor into a dynamic youth force dedicated to building a modern socialist country in all respects and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
