Recently, the results of the "Internet of Things Applications" track in the final of the 17th Chinese Collegiate Computing Competition were announced. The teachers and students from the College of Art and Design and the Future Information Technology College of our university have worked together to innovate the integration of art and technology across disciplines. The jointly designed work Smart Retrieval - Tomato Picking Robot System Based on YOLOv8 won the third prize in the national competition with outstanding creativity and solid technology.
The award-winning work was guided by Chu Yunxia from the College of Art and Design and He Dongbin from the Future Information Technology College. It was completed in collaboration between students majoring in animation from the College of Fine Arts and Design and students majoring in computer science and technology from the Future Information Technology College. The Smart Retrieval - Tomato Picking Robot System Based on YOLOv8 not only solves the difficulty of labor shortage in facility tomato production, improves operational accuracy and production efficiency, but also reduces production costs and promotes the professional, intelligent, and standardized development of facility vegetable planting. With the continuous advancement of technology and the deepening promotion of applications, tomato robots are expected to play a more important role in the agricultural field, contributing more to rural revitalization and agricultural modernization.
Chinese Collegiate Computing Competition, also known as 4C, is a computer design competition for college students in China. It is one of the earliest competitions for undergraduate students in Chinese universities. From the start of the competition in 2008 to 2024, it has been independently or jointly organized by the Ministry of Education's Higher Education and Computer related Education Guidance Committee. The purpose of the competition is to promote learning, teaching, and innovation through competition, and to serve the country in cultivating innovative, versatile, and applied talents with comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor.
Under the careful guidance of the Academic Affairs Office, the College of Art and Design and the Future Information Technology College actively organized teachers and students to participate in this competition. Through expert guidance, repeated polishing, and unremitting efforts, the work ultimately achieved excellent results.
This award is a recognition of the university's teaching quality and educational achievements, as well as a successful practice of interdisciplinary cooperation. In the future, the university will continue to carry out the project of improving students' comprehensive literacy, take high-level subject competitions as an opportunity, continuously carry out practical teaching reform and innovation, and comprehensively cultivate compound and applied talents with innovative consciousness.
