On the afternoon of September 12, our university held a high-quality development promotion meeting for discipline construction in the second lecture hall of the Administration Building. Vice President Feng Baoqiang attended the meeting and gave a speech. More than 150 people attended the meeting, including heads of relevant departments, deans of secondary schools, key discipline leaders and academic backbone.
Feng Baoqiang pointed out that the level of discipline construction reflects the level, characteristics, academic status and comprehensive competitiveness of a university, and strong schools must first strengthen disciplines. At present, the university faces three core tasks in discipline construction. First, it is necessary to consolidate the discipline direction, closely combine the national development strategy and the needs of regional industries, constantly promote the construction of new engineering, new medicine, new agriculture and new liberal arts, and build a discipline system with distinct characteristics and advantages in accordance with the principle of classified guidance and hierarchical construction. The second is to gather discipline teams. In the construction of teaching staff, it is necessary to attract and retain high-level talents through flexible introduction strategies, strengthen the training of existing teachers, build first-class discipline teams, establish and perfect incentive mechanisms, stimulate teachers' enthusiasm and creativity, and take multiple measures to provide solid talent support for discipline construction. The third is to build a discipline platform, and actively promote the reform of the scientific research management system and mechanism, cultivate and produce the results of national major projects, and provide a strong guarantee for the discipline construction through strengthening the platform construction, optimizing the allocation of resources, deepening scientific research cooperation and exchanges. He stressed that discipline construction is a long-term and arduous undertaking that requires everyone's hard work and unremitting efforts. "A strong university must first have a strong teacher faculty, and I must be one of them." I hope all teachers could become the load-bearing pioneers in the construction and development of the school, face challenges hand in hand, actively seize opportunities, gather strength, forge ahead, and jointly promote the discipline construction of Shijiazhuang University to a new level.
Zhao Ligong, director of the Graduate Education Development Center, made a detailed deployment of the construction of key disciplines in this semester from the aspects of discipline construction, discipline evaluation, discipline funding, and coordination and support of relevant departments. He informed the results of the review of degree authorization by the Academic Degrees Committee of The State Council in 2024 and the review and evaluation of new master's degree granting units. Zhao Ligong stressed the urgency and importance of discipline construction for the development of the university, and required all disciplines to accelerate the progress of discipline construction in accordance with the annual construction tasks and the basic conditions for applying for degree authorization points.
Relevant departments, secondary colleges, discipline leaders and academic backup crew have said that they will deeply study the spirit of the conference, ensure the implementation of discipline construction tasks, accurately grasp the development trend of disciplines, and use forward-looking concepts and innovative methods to promote the rapid and high-quality development of discipline construction in the university.
