On the evening of 23 April, Shijiazhuang University held the final and awarding party of the World Book Day Recitation Competition with the theme of ‘Rambling and Reading for The Future’ in Shangwen Auditorium to celebrate the 29th World Book Day. This activity is aimed at promoting reading for all people, inheriting and celebrating cultural classics. School leaders Chen Liang, Wang Xibo, Zai Lihuai, Yao Zhenjun and Li Juan attended the event, and nearly 1,000 teachers and students participated in this reading culture feast.
The theme video of World Book Day was played on the scene of the party. The opening theme song “Reading Is Rewarding’” has a profound meaning, which instantly brought the whole audience into the historical situation. In the final, reciters from colleges performed classic literary works such as ‘Centennial Symphony’, ‘Youth’, ‘My South and North’, etc., showing their deep understanding of the works and love of reading with exquisite recitation skills, which demonstrated the perseverance of the young students of SJZU on cultural confidence and reflected their deep attachment to the great motherland. Between the competitions, the cheerful song “To Climb in Spring” rang, adding a youthful and dynamic feeling for the evening.
The judges scored on the spot according to the wonderful performance of the contestants, and finally, the College of Economics and Management stood out and won the first prize; the College of International Exchange and the College of Literature and History won the second prize; the College of Teacher Education, the College of Physical Education and the College of Marxism won the third prize.
In the awarding session, Vice President Li Juan read out the “Decision on Commending the Winning Collectives and Individuals of the Library Reader Service Promotion Month 2024”, and the university leaders awarded certificates of honour to the winning collectives and individuals. The awards, including ‘Campus Reading Star’, ‘Excellent Reading Promoter’, ‘Campus Excellent Reading Class’ and ‘Campus Excellent Reading Collective’, fully demonstrated the excellent achievements of our teachers and students in promoting reading on campus in the academic year of 2023-2024.
This activity is not only one of the important contents of the series of activities commemorating the 20th anniversary of our university's promotion, but also an important part of the series of activities of the library's reader service promotion month. It fully demonstrated the cultural literacy of our teachers and students and inspired more people to love and pursue reading.
